United Appeal for Athens County 2-1-1 Information and Referral program brings a new service to Athens County and to United Appeal. This easy to remember 2-1-1 number can be used free of charge. 24/7 by any county resident to get help or give help. This service which has long been available in urban and suburban areas, will be a bonus to the infrastructure of Athens County by offering a convenient reference point for finding volunteer opportunities as well as a starting point for searches such as finding in-home health care or assistance after natural disasters United Appeal for Athens County 2-1-1 Information and Referral program brings a new service to Athens County and to United Appeal. American Red Cross Athens County Chapter United Appeal's $19,329 contribution assists meeting people's basic needs with relief after local floods, house fires, and other disasters; and services such as blood collection, communication services for military families and training classes on a variety of safety and community health topics.

Appalachian Community Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice & Health Services, Inc. , United Appeal's $26,578 contribution helps provide home health care through a full range of curative and rehabilitative health services including nursing, physical, occupational & speech therapies, home care aides, and hospice services and bereavement support.

Big Brothers Big Sister of Athens County United Appeal's $8054 gift helps fund qualified, professionally trained staff to support mentoring programs which provide basic needs of companionship and development and make a positive difference in the lives of area youth.

Family Healthcare Services, Inc, United Appeal's $7833 donation helps support the Athens County WIC program for basic child nutrition needs and assists with the basic need of pediatrician services for children with inadequate health insurance coverage.

The Gathering Place uses United Appeal's $4027 to help provide two basic needs for their clients: healthy food and housing. Healthy food includes fresh produce from the house's garden and a local farm; staff assist clients in finding affordable housing and by providing home starter kits of useful houseware items.

Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council United Appeal's $1772 contribution ot help provide financial assistance when needed for girl's participation and to support volunteer facilitators with resources and learning opportunities. United Appeal funds also support the council's conflict resolution program in collaboration with Nelsonville-York City School District

United Appeal also acts as the administrator for the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program Local Board, a Department of Homeland Security program that in 2009 brought an additional $69,700 in federal funds to Athens County food pantries, emergency shelters, mass feeding programs, housing and utility assistance programs and the local food bank.
